Time for the rambling girl

I have decided that I needed to post about RANDOM things…so enjoy :D
1.  I did laundry last week and it was SUCH A FAILURE! For one college here (remember there are 8 colleges for 12,000 students) they have 6 washers and 6 dryers.  Oh wait, and they only have 4 places to do laundry on campus. CRAZY RIGHT??? It also costs 1.70 pounds for a washer and 1 pound for the dryer.  I was so spoiled in Geneseo with my free laundry and 6 washers and dryers for every 150 students.  *sigh* ANYWAYS…I put in my load of laundry (including dark purple Lancaster hoodie and my Sabres jersey) and hit the button for bright colors.  I left to go entertain myself while the laundry gods decided to wreak havoc upon my clothes.  I come back and end up waiting an extra 10 minutes for the washer to decide whether or not it ever wants to stop washing my clothes.  I go to transfer them to the dryer and they are soaking wet! I tried to ring them out as best as I could and threw them into the dryer.  I started the machine and went back to my room.  50 minutes later I go back and the laundry gods had a good laugh.  My clothes were warm…but still wet!!! :-O WHAT??? I didn’t have enough change to put them back in the dryer so I put them in my bag and went to my room.
Carrying wet laundry up 4 flights of stairs = no fun. I get up to my room and begin hanging all of my clothing on anything and everything! I actually put several of my tank tops on the handle on my window.  I kept it upright using a rubber band attached to a little button above the handle.  It worked quite well! I didn’t have enough space on my window to hang everything though.  I put all my socks on my radiator and then used the measuring tape from my sewing kit as a makeshift clothesline.  It was a very entertaining sight with clothes EVERYWHERE!!
2.  Meghan, Jen and I have been hanging out and watching Pride and Prejudice the past few nights.  Meghan lives in the Grizedale townhouses and they are so nice!!! I laugh every time I see the post-it on their door that says “The Penthouse!” Her flatmates Toby and Matt are good fun! Jen, Meghan, Matt and I randomly started reading Shakespeare at one point!  Meghan is from Canada, so the 3 girls were trying to read it with British accents.  We were actually doing so well that Matt (who is from England) was saying he needed to work on his accent!  Then things took a turn and we started reading it in Southern US accents.  Listening to a British guy reading Shakespeare with a southern accent IS THE BEST THING EVER! The videos that Jen took make me giggle every time :)
After our antics and eating dinner (butternut squash soup that Meghan made!) the girls retired to Meghan’s room to watch Pride and Prejudice.  We’re watching the best version, the 1995 mini series with Colin Firth playing Mr. Darcy *sighs and smiles* I have to re-read P & P soon because I forgot how amazing it is :-) Mr. Bennett is one of my favorite characters because he just laughs at Mrs. Bennett and makes the wittiest comebacks ever! We also were laughing at how Mr. Darcy always asks Elizabeth if her family is in good health.  Meghan decided that it’s code for “I love you!!!”  So now we amuse ourselves by saying “Is your family in good health?” and then giggling.  I LOVE IT!
After finishing 2 episodes we headed over to Grad Bar for live music on Thursdays.  I had a Guinness and enjoyed Ulpha 590 (pretty sure that was their name).  They were really good!!! The lead singer was really cute and had a great voice! Meghan and I were fighting over who could keep him.  Haha :) It was such a good night!
3. I got bored yesterday and decided to color my duvet with sharpies! It’s just a plain white duvet so it needed some life! It now has some lovely blue swirls, random doodles, a few quotes, and a playing card with the number 23!
4. The nerf guns are so much fun!! Jen and I ambushed Greg the other night when he made the mistake of keeping his door open.  But then, like the pillock he is, he threw most of the ammo out of the window! Grrrrr! This just means our tactics and ops must be evaluated and altered.  Muahahahahaha >:-D
5.  I just read Jen’s blog again and I love reading about our adventures here. :) I can’t believe I’ve been here almost 7 weeks!! I got a birthday card from my mom today and it made me think about how I’m actually not spending my 21st birthday in the States.  This may be a good thing :-P Nah I kid, I miss my friends from home! But I’m going to miss my friends from here like crazy when I leave.  I’m already trying to figure out a weekend that I can go to Minnesota and visit Jen!  I’m broke but it must happen!
6.  I love meeting people from the US here.  Whenever you meet someone and you find out they are from the States, it just sparks an instant conversation and almost mini-friendship.  It usually results in the where are you from, what uni do you go to, what do you think of England, what do you think of classes here, where have you traveled to already etc. It’s strange but I love it :) I can actually say the same for meeting students from Canada!  I never realized how much we really have in common with them.  NORTH AMERICA YEAH! It also made me realize that when my friends from home tease me about basically being Canadian (from Buffalo, hating American football and loving hockey), I now will consider that as a compliment!  I shall take the Canadian flag that I got from Steuben and hang it up when I get back :) I can definitely thank Meghan for that!!!
7.  Going back to Geneseo after this will definitely be weird…but I’m trying not to think about that now.  I shall think of happy things like the finale party for Pride and Prejudice, Top Gear Live, and the Arsenal v. Wigan game :)
Hope all is well with you and please comment! <3
